A wonderful tour on the eastern branch of Lake Como. Starting from Bellano railway station, a climb of about 3 km on an asphalt road, takes us to the trail which goes by the name of “Via del Viandante”, an ancient trade route linking Milan with Switzerland.
On reaching Perledo, we return to the asphalt road, quite demanding at the start and then less steep until we reach Esino. The last 6 km on asphalt takes us to the beginning of the trail, which initally can be ridden but then becoming much steeper requiring about 15 minutes of bike carrying, will take us to the top of Mount San Defendente, at a height of 1323 m. The splendid view you can enjoy over Lake Como, with Bellagio at its centre, is quite unique!
Our descent from the peak starts here, a unique 1100 m drop, initially following the mountain ridge still offering a breathtaking view, then penetrating the undergrowth becoming steeper over technical stretches with sharp bends and roots. The mule trail with final steps will take us back to Bellano feeling elated and with a happy smile on our face!
